The Department of Social Work started its journey in July 1997. The department runs Five Year Integrated Course in Social Work which leads to BSW (three years) and MSW (two years) Degrees. The course curriculum is designed as per the CBCS pattern prescribed by the UGC and offers the papers of special interest in the area of Family and Child Welfare, Rural Development, Tribal Development, Psychosocial Counselling, NGO Management, Micro Finance and Livelihood, Dynamics of Human behaviour etc. The Department also runs Ph. D. Programme, where the thrust of the current research endeavours in the areas like Healthcare, Reproductive and Child Health Programme (RCH), Sex Education, HIV/ AIDS, ICDS Services, Panchayati Raj, Non Governmental Organizations, Women in Unorganized Sector, Self Help Groups, Corporate Voluntarism, Water and Sanitation, Disaster Management, Psychosocial problems of Elderly, Cancer, Tuberculosis, etc. The department has initiated outreach activities in the nearby rural communities.

Social Work Journal
The Social Work Journal is a Peer Reviewed Journal published by the Department of Social Work biannually. It was first published in 2010 with ISSN: 0976-5484. It seeks to promote scholarship in Social Work Education and Practice and other social science fields. The journal publishes empirical, conceptual, and review papers in the form of research articles, reports of research in progress, and analyses of contemporary issues of social importance.

Syllabus of Five Year Integrated Social Work Programme Implemented under NEP 2020 The integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s curriculum in Social Work has been developed with a strong emphasis on the theoretical underpinnings and practice dimensions relevant to social work practice in diverse settings with a focus on issues of vulnerable and marginalised groups. The programme lays emphasis on the disciplinary foundations; the methods of social work practice; and the attitudes, skills and knowledge which inform the practice dimensions. It attempts to integrate the macro with the underlying micro issues in the context of India with some emphasis on the development issues in the north-eastern region of the country. | |
