ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Being a part of the run-up activities to the Celebration of International Day of Yoga 2018, a ‘Workshop on Yoga’ has been organized by Assam University Sports Board at Department of Philosophy on 28th May 2018. The workshop was aimed to sensitize the participants about the strengths and health benefits of Yoga in promoting physical, mental and spiritual health and wellness. The workshop began at 11.30 am with brief remarks from Prof. C. R. Bhattacharjee, Director (Sports Board) with about 50 (fifty) participants from different sections of the University fraternity. This was followed by the keynote address by Prof. Adarasupally Nataraju, Deptt of Philosophy whereby he highlighted the cultural and philosophical significance of yoga with Indian tradition and gaining popularity of the same among the western countries. He also emphasized on philosophical roots and influences of commentaries on Yoga sutras, and significance of eight components of Yoga. Mr Shantanu Bhattacharjee, Yoga Instructor spoke on the importance of Yoga and he pointed out that people from different walks of life, cultures, traditions and religions are now looking at Yoga to find solace and relief, whether physiological, psychological or spiritual. A short film on ‘Yoga in the management of obesity’ was screened as part of the workshop. The program came to a close following light refreshment.
On 31st May 2018, a ‘Yoga Demonstration’ program was organized by the Assam University Sports Board in collaboration with Nataraja Yoga Academy, Silchar at Netaji Subhash Mancha of the University at 11.30 am. The program ended with distribution of Momentos to the participants.
